Mahindra, as one might guess from the name, is an Indian tractor company. It was founded in 1945 as a vehicle manufacturer called Muhammad & Mahindra. They changed their name to Mahindra & Mahindra some time later in 1948 when Muhammed moved to Pakistan. (When India got its independence from the British Empire, it was divided into Hindu (India) and Muslim (Pakistan/Bangladesh) sections.) They produced their first tractors in 1963 under the brand Mahindra Tractors. They are now (since 2010) the largest tractor manufacturer in the world by number of tractors built.
They entered the US market in 1994 with manufacturing/assembly plants in Houston, Texas; Marysville, California; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania; and Lyons, Kansas. Many of the parts are manufactured overseas and shipped to the US plants for assembly.
